Spice Labels
Spice labels have an easier life than most food labels and a harder design job than any of them. Nothing wet is attacking the adhesive, so the failure mode is not peeling. It is a label that has been rubbed grey in a spice rack, or one where the copy was set so small that nobody can read the blend.
Abrasion is the real risk
Dry product means the damage comes from handling rather than moisture. Jars and shakers rub against each other in a rack, in a shipper and on a shelf, and loose spice on the outside of a container is a mild abrasive in its own right. An unprotected ink scuffs under that, and a dark or heavily covered artwork shows every scuff.
A laminate or varnish over the print is what stops it, and it costs very little at this size. Where a container is going into foodservice rather than a domestic kitchen, which means a lot more handling, a synthetic facestock rather than paper is worth the small step up.
Wrap-around labels and the back panel
A shaker is small, and the front panel is smaller still once you have put a brand and a blend name on it. A full wrap-around label is usually the answer, because it turns a cramped front into a continuous surface: brand at the front, ingredients and directions round the back, and no second label to apply or keep aligned.
Wraps have to be sized properly, though. Too short and you get a visible gap, too long and the overlap sits across your artwork. Send us the container or its dimensions and we will work the size out with you, or see how to measure a label to do it yourself.
Blends multiply, so keep the runs short
Seasoning is a blend business. A line that starts with six single spices ends up with a dozen house blends, a barbecue range and a couple of seasonal ones, and every blend needs its own ingredient statement. There are no minimums here, so each blend gets the quantity it actually sells rather than a run you have to store, and you can hold one base artwork and change only the blend panel. Lot codes and best-before dates print variable on the same pass.
Custom printed or blank DIY spice labels
Printed in full colour on our own press in Henderson when the artwork is settled, with a colour proof first so a paprika red looks the same on the reorder. Blank sheet labels through your own printer if you are a small producer mixing to order. Free samples if you want to rub one against a jar and see. What your pack is required to declare is a question for your regulatory adviser rather than for us.
